Vanessa Williams and Her Tax Lien

The famous model turned actress Vanessa Williams is currently locked up in a jumbled up situation of tax related problems. She’s a major federal tax debtor, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

The IRS filed a nearly $370,000 tax lien against Williams, who starred in the popular television programs “Ugly Betty” and “Desperate Housewives.”

The filing, first reported by The Smoking Gun website, lists taxes that the IRS contends Williams didn’t pay for the 2011 tax year. The document filed in New York where Williams is a resident, notes that the agency had filed a tax assessment against the actress in November 2012.

After not getting the money, the IRS filed the lien for $369,249.89.

Williams, 51, was the first black Miss America, but her reign soon erupted into scandal when nude photos of her appeared in Penthouse magazine.

Her career soared in the aftermath, with music, television and Broadway performances that earned her Grammy, Emmy and Tony nominations.

Although, Williams has had a storied and successful career. This lien could just be hiccups between notices and her advisers, but it’s still serious. Tax liens can be about income, property, or even estate taxes. They can be state, federal or local. And they are all about getting paid.

Williams is only one of the many celebrities facing problems with tax authorities. Their high net worths usually pose a problem for them. Although it may be their attempts to save taxes.
