How To Get The Most Out Your Sunroom

Sunrooms are a fantastic way to add value to your home, as well as giving you some much-needed extra space with an easy extension. But how do you make your sunroom the best it can be? Clever decorating, of course!

How you choose to decorate your sunroom will largely depend on how you use the space. There’s no limit to how you can use a Sunroomsunroom but for the sake of conciseness we’ll focus on the three most common uses of sunrooms and how to best decorate them:

1.      The Indoor Garden: If you’re using your sunroom as an indoor garden or greenhouse, decorating won’t be much of an issue. Choose plants with bright flowers and pleasing scents, like hibiscus or passion flower vines. Aim for variety in your plants as well, have some in pots and others in planters. Think about trailing vines on a trellis, or hanging pots from the ceiling. Once you’ve got your plants sorted it’s time to make this space comfortable for you. Low lounges and chairs in warm colours will complement your garden without taking attention away from it. For tables and other pieces of furniture, favour natural, wooden furniture without paint, only varnish, to really enhance the wonderful, organic feeling in your sunroom.

2.      The Formal Sitting Room: Chances are you’ve already got a lounge room, so a sunroom can be a great space to turn into a more formal lounge room, one that doesn’t rely on electronics. To get a real old-world feel, source antique furniture (or replica furniture) in creams or light patterns. When it comes to lighting, a central candelabra-like light will look great whether on or off. Choose sculptures and pictures that are small and subtle, and only have a few so the space doesn’t feel cluttered.

3.      The Home Gym: You want to feel motivated and inspired while you’re at the gym, and you can decorate in a way to encourage these feelings. Before any furniture comes into the space find your very favourite view from the sunroom, whether it’s of a garden bed or looking out across the street. This is where you want your line of sight to be drawn. If you’ve only got one piece of gym equipment, simply place that equipment facing that view. If you’ve got a bit more equipment structure your placement so that you’ll always get part of that view, whether that’s by lining up your equipment or by creating a circle of sorts. Once you know where the gym equipment goes, it’s on to the finishing touches. Find pictures or posters that inspire you, whether they feature text or images doesn’t matter, just keep it looking modern to fit with the rest of the space.

Decorating your sunroom shouldn’t be a chore – it’s a great way to express yourself and make the space truly yours.
