Are you buying the right kitchen items?

It’s not always easy to know if the material you are buying is of good enough quality for your needs. However, by paying attention to detail, one can spot the signs that tell if the quality and price are fair.

If you are buying a kitchen, be it an ex display kitchen, used kitchen or a new kitchen design, paying attention to detail is the most important thing to remember.

Here are some details to watch out for:

Modern edging

In the past, kitchen cabinet makers used to carry around an iron. There was a special sort of edging tape that was stuck to a piece of board. That tape had a glue that was activated by the hot iron, which made it stick to the board. This method of attaching boards used to be sufficient for most people’s needs in the past, but it had its limitations. Now the edges of boards have changed and are a lot more versatile in shape and design. They are also much more improved.

Highly innovative and talented kitchen designers now apply much stronger resistant edging on kitchen cabinets, doors and panels. This edging is also activated by heat but with higher temperatures and via a technical machine, rather than a domestic iron. The highly advanced edging machine makes sure that edging does not peel off. The main purpose of such edging is to provide a higher level of protection to cutlery and pot drawers, which can be easily banged.

Some of the most popular brands even have introduced laser fusion technology to make edging still more protective. This type of edging is highly durable, fine and visually appealing.

Below is an image of modern edging; you can easily see the smooth edges with minimal visual lines.

If you can’t afford an item with modern edging, then be careful with the colours you choose. Some lighter colours will have more prominent edges than others.

The right finish

It is important to determine the quality of the items you are buying. For example, in some countries like Australia; there are specific standards for board manufacturing;  it should be made from a moisture resistant particle board (HMR) a or moisture resistant medium density fibreboard. So you have to be careful what you’re buying, since many types come in inferior quality which can put the durability of the item in danger.

Imported boards come with big chips. The problem with them is that screws do not take proper hold and can be pulled back out again too easily after being driven into the board.

Quality kitchens – it’s all in the detail

The highest quality kitchens includes glass doors with a beautiful flat finish. This flat finish may not necessarily be made of glass but it still looks like it is. Poorer quality glass doors will have dull finish and will not shine as nicely.

Follow these tips when installing new items during your kitchen renovation and your attention to detail will allow you to make sure you never unknowingly compromise on quality.
